Weddings in St. Augustine, Florida

St. Augustine Wedding Photographer

I am Heather Delk, and I photograph weddings in St. Augustine and across Northeast Florida. My work is natural and unhurried: I would rather catch your mother's face during the vows than spend forty minutes posing a group that is ready to go eat.

St. Augustine gives you something most places cannot. Coquina walls that glow at golden hour, a historic district that photographs beautifully in any weather, and the Atlantic twenty minutes away. A wedding here does not need much help to look like itself.

What a wedding day looks like with me

I arrive while you are still getting ready, because that hour is usually where the best photographs are. Then I stay with the day rather than running it. You will not hear me shouting directions over your ceremony.

For portraits I ask for about thirty minutes somewhere near sunset, which in St. Augustine means the light coming off the water and the old buildings at the same time. If your timeline cannot spare it, we work around that. A good photograph is not worth missing your own reception.

  • Getting ready, both partners when the locations allow
  • Ceremony, start to finish, no interruptions from me
  • Family and wedding party groupings, run from a list you write beforehand
  • Couple portraits, roughly thirty minutes, ideally near sunset
  • Reception through the moments that matter to you, whether that is the first dance or the last song

Coverage and what it costs

Three wedding packages, separated by hours rather than by what you are allowed to receive. Every one includes a private digital gallery, and a $200 deposit holds your date.

Six hours covers a ceremony and reception at one location. Eight is the common choice when getting ready happens somewhere else. Ten hours covers a day that starts early and ends with a send off.

Where couples get married around St. Augustine

Couples who contact me are usually choosing between the historic district, a beach, or a private property. All three photograph well, and each asks something different of the timeline.

Downtown means walkable portraits and architecture, but also other people in your frames on a Saturday. The beaches north and south of the city trade that for open sky and wind. A private home or a family property is often the most relaxed day of the three, and it is where I find the most honest pictures.

  • The historic district and its coquina streets, best an hour before sunset
  • Vilano Beach and the north shore, open and uncrowded on weekday evenings
  • Anastasia Island and the state park, dunes and tree cover in the same place
  • Private homes and family properties anywhere in St. Johns County

Timeline advice worth having early

The single most useful thing you can do for your photographs is to put your ceremony in the right place relative to sunset. In Northeast Florida that means late afternoon for most of the year, earlier in December, later in June.

The second most useful thing is a family photo list, written out, with names. Fifteen minutes of organised group photos beats forty five minutes of someone calling out for an uncle who went to the bar.

Common questions

How far in advance should I book a St. Augustine wedding photographer?

Most couples reach out nine to twelve months ahead. Spring and autumn Saturdays go first here, because the weather is kindest then. If your date is sooner than that it is still worth asking, since a date is either open or it is not.

Do you travel outside St. Augustine?

Yes. Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, the beaches and the rest of Northeast Florida are all a normal drive and are included. Further than that, ask me and I will give you a straight answer about travel.

How many photographs will I receive, and when?

The number depends on the length of the day rather than on a quota I am trying to hit. Everything is edited and delivered in a private digital gallery you can download from and share.

What happens if it rains?

We shoot anyway. Florida rain is usually a thirty minute problem, not an all day one, and overcast light is genuinely flattering. I plan a covered option for every wedding so nobody is making that decision at the last minute.

Do you offer a second photographer?

I have worked with second and third shooters on larger weddings. Ask when you enquire and I will tell you honestly whether your day needs one.

What do you need from me to hold the date?

A $200 deposit and a signed agreement. The balance is due before the wedding, and payment plans are available if that is easier.
