The White House on the River Wedding Photographer

The White House on the River sits on the St. Johns in Mandarin, which gives you something unusual for Jacksonville: a riverfront wedding that still feels like a house rather than a hotel.

I have photographed here. What follows is what I found actually useful about the space, not a description copied off a listing.

About the venue

It is a historic riverside property in Mandarin, on the St. Johns River, used for weddings and smaller celebrations such as showers and family events. The scale is intimate rather than grand, and that suits a certain kind of day very well.

If you want a wedding where guests can wander between inside and the water without a shuttle or a parking plan, this is the sort of place that does it.

Photographing a wedding here

The river is the asset, and it is west facing enough to give you real colour in the evening. I work the water side hard at the end of the day and use the house and the grounds earlier.

Smaller venues reward a photographer who stays out of the way, because there is nowhere to hide and guests notice. I shoot longer lenses here than I would at a large resort, which keeps me further back during anything that matters.

Best spots for photographs

The useful frames here are close together, which is a real advantage when your timeline is tight.

  • The riverfront, late in the day, for couple portraits
  • The house itself for getting ready and detail coverage
  • The grounds between the house and the water for family groupings
  • Covered areas for the Florida rain that arrives and leaves in twenty minutes

Timeline advice for this venue

Put the ceremony late enough that the river is doing something. Early afternoon here is harsher light than the setting deserves.

Mandarin is a straightforward drive from St. Johns County and sits inside my no travel charge area, so there is no extra cost to having me there.

Common questions

Have you photographed at The White House on the River?

Yes. Ask me and I will send you a gallery from a wedding there so you can see the whole day rather than a few selected frames.

Do you charge travel to Mandarin?

No. Jacksonville, including Mandarin, is inside the area I cover with no travel charge.

Is this venue good for a smaller wedding?

It suits an intimate day well. If your guest list is small enough that a big ballroom would feel empty, a house on the river is usually the better answer.

What time should the ceremony be?

Late enough to get the evening light on the river. Tell me your date and I will work out the sunset time and suggest a ceremony slot around it.
